Portrait
A big part of my reason for drawing was to be able to capture a facial expression. I wanted to be able to capture on paper the imperceptible little detail that made a face express a feeling. I don't think you can ever really do that, but I like to try to capture a grin, a surprise, a pout or a deep boredom.
If I want to stay in my comfort zone, I draw with a 6B Staedtler. I don't care about perfect textures or shadows, what I need is good contrast, and on that I think I still have some progress to make. What I particularly like to do is to paint a portrait in ink, with a Pentel Fude Brush Pen, Medium (XFL2L), or a Kuretake brush. I'm just starting to try to do this with watercolour.
